Felix Jacob Burrus, Jr., 69, passed away on January 6, 2018. A memorial service will be held 4:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 9, 2018, at Grace Presbyterian Church; 5301 Sidney Simons Blvd; Columbus, GA 31904.
Jake was born on December 28, 1948 in Columbus to the late Felix Jacob Burrus and Augusta Andrews Burrus. His life exemplified Christ-like service to others. Jake was a life-long member of the First Presbyterian Church, where he was an officer for many years. More recently, he had attended Grace Presbyterian Church.
Jake spent the bulk of his career with the W.C. Bradley Company and Columbus Sprinkler. He served for several years on the Southeast Georgia Arthritis Foundation board and was an ardent volunteer and supporter of the Steeplechase at Callaway Gardens by serving as Stable Coordinator since its inception.
Jake was an avid reader, fisherman, sailor and biker over the course of his life. He was at his happiest spending time with his family at the beach or in the Keys, fishing and boating. Jake graduated from Columbus High School and West Georgia College in Carrolton, Georgia.
"Big Jake", a name to which he was often referred, was a wonderful father, husband, brother and friend. He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Julie Adams Burrus; his sons, Felix Jacob Burrus III and Maxim Adams Burrus; his sisters Margaret Andrews Burrus and Augusta Embry Burrus; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and devoted friends.
In lieu of flowers, Jake's family requests donations be made to the Arthritis Foundation or Grace Presbyterian Church.
