James E. Lockard, 80, of Columbus, Georgia passed away on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at Gentiva Hospice. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 pm, on Monday, November 28, 2016 in Edgewood Hall, with Reverend Mike McBride officiating. Interment will follow in Parkhill Cemetery. Visitation will be 2:00 pm, on Monday, November 28, 2016 in Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby 4071 Macon Road Columbus, GA.

Mr. Lockard was born December 19, 1935 in Altoona, Pennsylvania to the late Chester R. Lockard and Mable R. Bumgarner Lockard. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a brother; Chester L. Lockard, and two sisters; Eleanor Sanders and Shirley Castetler. Mr. Lockard served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Viet Nam Conflict from which he was a recipient of the following medals: Vietnam Service Medal with 1 Silver Star and 2 Bronze Stars; Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device 2 Oversea Service Bars; Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm; and Sharpshooter M-16 7 Service Stripes. After his retirement from the Army, Mr. Lockard worked in management with the Phenix City Utilities for 25 years. He was preceded in death by his brother, Alvin Lockard.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Nancy C. Lockard, four daughters; Nancy Elliott, Tammy (David) Wilhite, Cathern Bronson, and Linda Huff, one sister; Dorothy Hoffman, ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
