Mary Browder Harcourt, 62, of Hamilton, GA, died Friday, November 25, 2016 at her home. A memorial service celebrating Mary's life will be held 10:00 A.M.Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at St. Luke United Methodist Church, Columbus, GA, with the Reverend Robert Beckum officiating. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the Mill Room at Striffler-Hamby, Columbus, GA.
Mary was born May 5, 1954 in Columbus, GA the daughter of Roy J. and Virginia Young Browder. She was the third of six daughters. Mary attended Rigdon Road and Clubview Elementary Schools. She attended Richards Junior High School and graduated from Columbus High School in the class of 1972. She was a CHS Varsity cheerleader and a member of the National Honor Society. Mary attended Mercer College and graduated from the University of Georgia in 1976. She was a member of the Phi Mu sorority.
Returning to Columbus, she married Kevin M. Harcourt in 1983 and together, they had three children: William, John and Franklin. The boys were the highlight of her life! Mary was later employed by the Columbus Steeplechase and then Chancellor's Mens Clothing Store. Mary was a very smart and talented person. She was very dedicated to her family and her many friends. She never said "no" to anyone. She was always there to help, no matter the task, but especially if it was a wedding! Mary was an excellent calligrapher. Having grown up in a family of six girls, Mary was excited to have a house full of boys (sometimes). She finally got two girls (daughter-in-laws). She was ecstatic about that!
Mary is survived by her husband, Kevin; sons, William, John (Courtney) and Franklin (Rebecca); 5 sisters, Nancy Kruger, Susan Wiley (Bolts), Penny Lewallyn (Stan), Bonnie Mize (Larry), and Kristi Sinkule; there were also many neieces, nephews and cousins.
The family requests that memorial donations be made to St. Luke United Methodist Church, 1104 2nd Avenue, Columbus, GA 31901; Columbus Hospice, 7020 Moon Road, Columbus, GA 31909; or a favorite charity. Condolences may be expressed at www.shcolumbus.com.
